What is SLPplacements.com?
SLPplacements.com is a website designed to help SLP and SLPA students connect with licensed SLPs who may be able to offer clinical placements.
Is SLPplacements.com affiliated with a university, organization, or educational program?
No. SLPplacements.com is an independent resource intended to help make the clinical placement process more accessible.
Does SLPplacements.com charge a fee for use?
No. SLPplacements.com is a philanthropic initiative created to be a free resource for SLP and SLPA students to reduce challenges stemming from the current shortage of placements.
Do I need to make an account to browse or post?
No. All posts are public, and no account is required to submit a post.
What information should students and universities include in their listings?
Students and universities can provide information about what they are seeking, such as their current or preferred geographical location, desired clinical setting, placement dates or semester, hours needed, and other relevant details.
What happens once I post?
Posts are reviewed by the website owner to screen for spam and irrelevant content before being published.
Can I attach a resume to my post?
Not at this time. Connecting to your LinkedIn page is recommended to showcase experience.
How do potential placement providers contact me?
Students and universities can provide their preferred contact information or a link to an appropriate professional profile or website. SLPplacements.com does not include internal messaging.
Does my university have to approve my placement?
Yes. Students are responsible for following all requirements established by their academic program. Any potential placement should be discussed with and approved by the appropriate university representative before it is finalized. If your program has specific policies about how students may contact potential placement sites, follow those policies.
Can university representatives use SLPplacements.com?
Yes. Clinical coordinators and other university representatives can use the site as an additional resource when helping students identify potential placement opportunities. The site is intended to supplement existing placement processes, not replace them. Universities remain responsible for determining whether a particular placement meets their program's requirements.
Who can offer a clinical placement?
In the United States, current ASHA requirements dictate that the supervisor hold a current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A or CCC-SLP), have completed 9 months of full-time clinical practice (or part-time equivalent) after obtaining the Certificate of Clinical Competence, and complete at least 2 hours of continuing education or training in supervision, clinical instruction, or mentorship.
Does contacting a student obligate an SLP to provide a placement?
No. Contacting a student simply opens the door to a conversation. Any placement arrangement should be discussed and agreed upon separately.
